Kaya is a rail engineer who has been at Ramboll for three years. Her day-today role sees her working on some of the country’s biggest rail schemes, but she also takes an active role in some of our employee networks and charitable initiatives. Find out more about her experiences:
When I first joined, I was part of the early careers network, which helped me to get to know my peers. Since then, I've taken on the role of being the lead for the STEM network, which works with younger children in the community to inspire them about STEM learning and careers. Being able to give back to the communities I came from has been important to me. It has also been heartening to witness the value that Ramboll places on this aspect of my role.
The initiative that I’m most proud of being involved in, is a project funded by the Ramboll Foundation, Bridges to Prosperity (B2P), a charity that builds bridges to better lives for those in rural communities. I travelled to Rwanda and spent 10 days building a new trail bridge with colleagues from across the globe. It involved a lot of hard labour, but the team worked well together alongside the local community, whom we celebrated with once it was completed. It is something that's going to impact me for the rest of my life and has changed the way I look at engineering and the impact we can make on communities around us. I’m proud of what we achieved; it is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
Ramboll is a purpose-driven organisation and thanks to Ramboll’s foundation ownership model we are able to give back to society. The Ramboll Foundation funds many charitable initiatives and our Making a Difference network provides further opportunities for employees to use their working time and skills to support projects that benefit people, communities and the environment.
Being part of these initiatives has been beneficial in many ways. They have helped me to get to know people, I’ve worked outside my comfort zone, liaising with our business leaders and I have developed my own skills as a graduate.
