Recycling Strategy for ACEA

In this project, our experts evaluated the possibilities and boundaries of plastics recycling out of cars for our customer, the European Automobile Manufacturer Association. This included the data capturing out of disposal of old cars as well as the flows and treatment of plastic components. During the development of an adequate strategy, several ways of waste management for plastics from cars have been considered.

Circularity Concept for Fiber Composites

Fiber composites are lightweight, stable and inexpensive. They are being applied in the manufacturing of sport boats, and sailplanes. However, they is no clear recycling concept for these materials. In a recent project for the German Environmental Agency, our experts are developing a circularity concept in order to keep these materials in the  recovered substance cycle and reduce negative impacts on the environment.

Supporting the EU Plastics Strategy

The European Plastics Strategy is already in place since 2018 and targets to reduce significantly plastics waste streams and foster their recycling and re-use. With the current project on recycling strategies for plastic components used in electric appliances and cars our experts work together with the Fraunhofer Institute for  Process Engineering and Packaging IVV to develop a coherent concept and recommend actions for its implementation.

Waste2Energy at its Best - Amager Bakke

The multi-functional Amager Bakke waste-to-energy facility in Copenhagen raises the bar for resource optimisation with an energy efficiency of 107%. As the Owner’s Engineer, Ramboll has helped the client boost the energy output to record-high levels and reduce emissions to far below limit values. The environmental protection technology applied at the facility, such as inter alia front-end selective catalytic reduction and wet flue gas treatment results in an extremely green profile.

Return Schemes for Small Electronic Devices

In 2019 consumers produced 54 million tons of electronic scrap worldwide - the prediction for 2030 is 74,7 million tons*. Most of these devices end up as dump due to their short life cycle and a missing recycling or repairing infrastructure. Our experts are currently supporting the European Commission in a study about how to improve the recycling and waste management of electronic devices, especially mobile devices.

Efficiency Improvement through Waste Gas Condensation in Switzerland

Our experts helped the customer IWB to decarbonize their district heating network by increasing significantly the efficiency of  their EFW plant in Hagenau . Making efficient use of burnt gas condensation and without implementing any additional energy source, the CO2 emissions could be reduced by 23.830 t. The project is unique in Switzerland and recently won the Swiss Innovation Prize 2021.
