Ramboll’s Biodiversity Metrics

Measuring biodiversity value to support a nature positive future

Transparently evaluating and disclosing no net loss or biodiversity net gain claims, in alignment with global reporting frameworks and policies.

Global Biodiversity Metric

A tool for assessing biodiversity value based on key indicators of ecological integrity tailored to the IUCN Global Ecosystem Typology. This metric enables effective measurement and informed decision-making for biodiversity management at sites around the world.

Note: The GBM primarily includes terrestrial, and select freshwater and marine-transitional functional groups. Habitats such as pelagic ocean waters, deep sea floors, rivers and streams will be included in future versions of the GBM.

Americas Biodiversity Metric

Tailored for the Americas, this metric initially focuses on biodiversity quantification in the Northeastern US (New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania) and is underpinned by select Ecological Integrity Assessment (EIA) criteria developed by NatureServe.

Note: Expansion to additional geographies in the US, Canada, and Mexico is expected to continue through 2025.
